An Era Ends with Legendary Indian Actor Dilip Kumar’s Death at Age 98

Bollywood legendary actor Dilip Kumar died at the Mumbai hospital on Wednesday (7 July) after suffering a prolonged illness. He was treated by his family and doctors for a long time. He passed away at 98.

The funeral and last rites will be held at 5 pm (7 July) at Juhu Kabristan situated at Santacruz Mumbai, said on a post from Dilip Kumar’s Twitter handle.

Dilip Kumar, born as Muhammad Yousuf Khan in Peshawar, Pakistan on December 11, 1922. He was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion which forms a build-up of excess fluid in between the layers of pleura outside lungs that undertake a successful procedure of pleural aspiration. With this, he was discharged in five days after being admitted to the hospital again.

Dilip Kumar, embodied as the best Indian actor because of his great work in the film industry while facing seven decades in the public life. Last Tuesday, he was admitted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai, which provided him a non-COVID-19 facility at Khar.

The actor is popularly known as ‘Tragedy King’ through the decades and film-goers generations because of his brooding and intense romantic portrayal in classical movies such as “Devdas” and “Mughal-e-Azam“.

The Veteran of Hindi cinema, having his last golden troika with Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor. He was admitted to the hospital last month after following breathlessness episodes.

“With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him, we return,” posted by Faisal Farooqui, who is the actor’s family friend, posted from his Twitter handle.

Heartfelt condolence messages for much loved legendary Indian star whose death is truly epitomized as an era’s end, poured from all corners along with our honorable President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Narendra Modi, and others expressing their deep heart grief.

“He passed away due to prolonged illness at 7.30 am,” Dr. Jalil Parkar, who was treating Dilip Kumar during his illness, told PTI.

“Dilip Kumar summarised in himself a history of emerging India. The thespian’s charm transcended all boundaries, and he was loved across the subcontinent…Dilip Saab will live forever in the heart of India,” said by the President Ram Nath Kovind.

“He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends and innumerable admirers. RIP,” posted on PM Narendra Modi’s Twitter handle to express the grief.

Amitabh Bachchan, who co-starred with actor Dilip Kumar in the film “Shakti”, sent an institution as “… whenever the history of Indian cinema will be written, it shall always be ”before Dilip Kumar and after Dilip Kumar. My duas (prayer) for peace of his soul and the strength to the family to bear this loss… Deeply saddened.”

Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar was listed in Guinness World Records (GWR) for winning maximum awards as an Indian bollywood actor. In India, he was also attributed as the first method actor. He was honored by numerous big awards like the Padma Vibhushan Award in 2015, and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994.
